Desire2Learn® Capture Portal is a power house for storing and viewing engaging and social rich media presentations.

Desire2Learn Capture Portal is the place on the Web where your online participants watch live and on demand presentations and interact with other participants. It also the tool for an administrator to schedule events, manage the media repository, do post-production and customize the look and feel of the site.

Live Rich Media Experience

Your web audience will be able to access live presentations via a state of the art Rich Media presentation player with video, audio and presentation aid components that can be easily configured to focus different aspects of the presentations. Zoom feature lets viewers read even the most detailed slides and with Full Screen mode users can achieve truly cinematic experience. Picture-in-picture layout allows to bring the most important content on the front while checking the less important one in a background.

Built-in text chat component allows forwarding questions to presenters and having public and private conversations among participants, creating an incredibly engaging and social media experience.

Unlike similar web conferencing systems Desire2Learn Capture Portal has no theoretical limits on the number of participants that can access the live webcast at the same time. The webcast administrator, however, can specify a limited number of "seats" in a virtual class room. Of course, the interactive features can be turned off and the live experience can be as simple as a traditional television.

Access, search, and comment on demand

One of the major differences between web-based meeting software and Desire2Learn Capture Portal is an ability to build an excellent library of recorded events. Built-in Optical Character Recognition (OCR) component together with our powerful search allow not only locating the right presentation in the repository but also finding the point in the talk where the keyword is found. In addition to search feature users can navigate the talk via built-in interactive table of content with slide thumbnails. User comments that refer to a particular point on the timeline will automatically turn into links allowing viewers navigate to a referred point with a click of a mouse.

Along with the slides, Close Captioning support helps viewers with disabilities access presentations. Desire2Learn Capture presentations can be sent by email as a link, embedded into a 3-rd party website, CMS, LMS or a blog as well as multiple social networks including Facebook and Twitter. There are various ways to limit the access to presentations via a simple password protection, authentication or integration with 3-rd party LDAP or e-commerce systems. Intuitive post-production right in the browser window

To achieve a required polish administrators can open published presentations using the web-based tool called Producer that is built into Desire2Learn Capture Portal. Producer allows trimming the video, replacing the slides and working with the slides timing, adding chapters tags and search keywords manually or extracting keywords from slides using an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) tools. It is also possible to alter certain slides by uploading and converting a custom Power Point presentation file. Producer also allows to upload a full presentation transcript in SubRip subtitle format.

Automation

If Rich Media capture happens in more than one room then controlling stations manually becomes expensive and logistically complex. Desire2Learn Capture Portal allows setting the remote execution schedule and monitoring the Capture Stations from anywhere using any Web browser. One operator can control the entire campus or large corporate Rich Media capture from home, office or even on the go.

Virtualization

Large and Medium size organizations, schools and A/V shops can serve Rich Media content to different departments, campuses or individual customers by providing a separate website with its own live event schedule, archive repository and user groups. No additional Portal software instances are required. Desire2Learn Capture Portal supports full virtualization providing unlimited number of portals at no extra cost.

Localization

Desire2Learn Capture Portal supports multiple languages. You can run multilingual communities assigning languages to individual virtual instances of the server software.

Custom look and feel

Administrators can modify the look of the Capture Portal right in the browser. Customization may include uploading a banner bitmap, changing colors, fonts, adding documents and main menu items.

Hardware: Dual Xeon or Core2 CPU, 2+ GB of RAM, One or more 500+ GB HDD, 100+ Mbps Network card

OS: Windows Server 2003 or 2008 (all editions, all releases) Microsoft .NET Runtime 2.0 or higher. Sun Java Runtime 6.0 or higher. Web application and media publishing point directories must have write privileges set for the web server process. Remote Desktop Service with administrative privileges or similar service must be enabled in order to receive technical support.

Web Server: IIS 6.0+ with ASP.NET support.

Flash Streaming Server: Adobe FMS 4 (recommended) or Wowza Media Server 2.0+ 

Database: MS Jet 4.0+ or PostgreSQL 9.0+.

3rd party software: Installation of any 3-rd party software other than listed above voids the Limited Warranty
